Details

  • The Fürstenmühle Rauris was once owned by the Prince-Archbishops, and its distinguished architectural details still bear witness to its rich historical past. One of its most striking features is the imposing multi-story late Gothic wooden roof truss, a true masterpiece of craftsmanship that leaves a lasting impression.
  • The building primarily consists of the former bakery with its adjoining living quarters and the adjacent mill area, all connected by a central staircase. While the bakery, living area, and staircase are solid structures with traditional timber beam ceilings, the mill section is entirely made of wood, with no interior partition walls from the ground floor to the roof. Instead, it is horizontally divided into six levels by wooden beam layers.
  • The renovation project created four exclusive high-end apartments. The former utility wing was transformed into a single grand apartment spanning all five floors, covering approximately 445 m² of living space. Meanwhile, the former bakery and residential quarters were converted into three additional apartments with a combined area of around 310 m².
  • A historic mill reimagined as a contemporary living experience: The key focus of the renovation was the adaptation of the roof structure for residential use. The design principle was to preserve and highlight the open attic space, with each level seamlessly connected by floating wooden staircases between the original beams.
  • The historic hydroelectric power plant that was once housed within the building was relocated to an underground structure, allowing for a complete technical decoupling and significantly improving the efficiency of the modernized turbine system. As a result, the Fürstenmühle has been revitalized in a fully sustainable and self-sufficient manner, in keeping with the spirit of the times.
